Michael graduated from the school psychology program at
the University of Wisconsin – Superior in 1988. He was employed as a school
psychologist for the Puyallup School District in Washington State from 1988 to
1999. Following two summers of study in Rochester, New York, he earned an
Advanced Graduate Certificate in School Psychology and Deafness in 1997 from
the Rochester Institute of Technology, and served as the school psychologist
for the district deaf/hard of hearing program. During his time in Washington
State, Michael served on the executive board for the Washington State
Association of School Psychologists (WSASP) for eight years in a variety of
capacities, including as a liaison to the Washington Educational Staff
Associate Council (3 years), co-region representative (2 years), newsletter
editor (6 years), and website editor (4 years). He also served NASP from
December of 1997 to June of 1999 as Associate Web Editor. In November of 1998,
Michael was named co-recipient of the Best Practices in School Psychology
Award from WSASP for implementing curriculum based measurement practices
within a school district. Since August of 2001, Michael has been employed by
the Thomas County Schools in Thomasville, Georgia, working full-time at an
elementary school serving grades three and four. He served as GASP’s Region
Representative for Region 9 for two years prior to being elected as
President-Elect.
